From  Miró to Warhol. The Paris Berardo Collection 

Four modern art movements, illustrated by seventy works, make up the essential theme of this exhibition at the Luxembourg Museum this fall.  Surrealism with Miró, Dali, Ernst and Breton; Abstraction through works by Mondrian, Tanguy and Arp; the 1960’s New Realism and Pop Art represented by Warhol, Klein, Soulages, Mitchell; and the post 1970’s including works by Schnabel, Stella and others.  This exhibition brings to Paris a part of José Berardo’s impressive collection of some 862 modern art works that, in the words of the art collector “gives the experience of twentieth century art”.

Pastels of the Orsay Museum

The Orsay Museum has one the finest collections of pastels in the world, amongst which masterpieces by Millet, Manet, Degas, Redon and Lévy-Dhumer. This exhibition is dedicated to the 1850 to 1914 period, one of the most fecund for this medium.
In fact the 19th century—a period of constant revolution—marked the renewal of the art of pastel. Although the generation following Quentin de la Tour (1704-1788) turned their back to pastel’s ‘dubious charm’, the Romantics and the first Realists picked it up again as a forceful medium. Millet, Puivis de Chavannes, Aman-Jean and Paul Helleu (a witness to Proust’s world) put pastel back in the place of honor.  They were then followed by Degas and Manet (whose pastels are a perfect fusion of the subject matter and the medium).  Redon invented a new technique in this medium to express the depth of his understanding of life’s mystery. The pastel becomes a medium in which appears the closest fusion between drawing and color, the form and its decomposition, the image and its aura.
